Ken Roeber Chosen for 2011 VACP/VPCF Valor Award

Kenneth T. Roeber of our Healthcare practice's Richmond office, and an Auxiliary Police Officer  with the Chesterfield County Department, has been selected as a recipient of  the 2011 Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police/Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation Valor Award, firm President M. Pierce Rucker announced today.

"Ken's service in the Auxiliary is remarkable as it exists simultaneously with his demanding law career," said Rucker. "His fellow lawyers, indeed the whole firm, admire his commitment to his community service and his humility about his heroic acts."

The VAPC/VPCF says that he Award for Valor recognizes a law enforcement officer who, in the line of duty, performs an act of extraordinary heroism while engaged with an adversary at imminent personal risk.  The Award for Valor is the most prestigious award that the Association presents to officers.

Roeber was nominated for his actions on January 15, 2011 when he and four other officers saved the life of Mr. David Valleau.  The Award will be presented on September 27, 2011 at the VACP annual conference.

Roeber's law practice is focused on medical malpractice defense and on civil rights law, especially as it relates to police officers and police actions. He graduated from the Chesterfield County Police Academy, became certified as a law enforcement officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, and was sworn in as a police officer in 2006. Roeber has twice been recognized as Auxiliary Officer of the Year for his volunteer service with the Chesterfield County Police Auxiliary Unit.

The VACP/VPCF Valor Awards Banquet was held on the evening of Tuesday, September 27, 2011 during the VACP Annual Conference at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott in Norfolk, Virginia.
