THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN OUR WEB SITE DESCRIBES LEGAL MATTERS HANDLED IN THE PAST BY THE ATTORNEYS OF SANDS ANDERSON MARKS & MILLER, P.C. OF COURSE, THE RESULTS WE HAVE ACHIEVED DEPEND UPON A VARIETY OF FACTORS UNIQUE TO EACH MATTER. BECAUSE EACH MATTER IS DIFFERENT, OUR PAST RESULTS CANNOT PREDICT OR GUARANTEE A SIMILAR RESULT IN THE FUTURE.

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (January 30, 2006)...Four members of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller's Healthcare Practice Group were included by the publishers of Virginia Lawyers Weekly in an article concerning what the legal news publication termed "the largest defense verdicts returned in Virginia in 2005." Randy Wimbish, Pierce Rucker, Margaret Hardy and Ken Roeber were each included in information about multiple verdicts. "We are delighted that our hard work and many successes in 2005 have been recognized in this way," said Randy Wimbish, Chairman of Sands Anderson's Healthcare Practice Group and the lead trial attorney in four of the seven verdicts, "but we are even more proud of the fact that our clients have been able to leave the courthouse with their records clean and their reputations intact."

Sands Anderson successfully defended the following healthcare providers in the cases that made the list that appeared in the January 31, 2006 edition of Lawyers Weekly:

a neonatologist who allegedly failed to resuscitate an infant, resulting in brain damage and eventually death (Pierce Rucker and Ken Roeber)

an emergency physician who allegedly administered Heparin to a cardiac patient, resulting in a stroke (Pierce Rucker and Ken Roeber)

a pediatrician who allegedly failed to diagnose signs of cardiac tamponade, resulting in the death of an 18-month-old infant (Randy Wimbish and Ken Roeber)

a family practice physician who allegedly failed to diagnose and treat an infection, leading to a below knee amputation (Randy Wimbish and Margaret Hardy)

a cardiologist who allegedly improperly prescribed thrombolytic therapy for an acute heart attack patient, resulting in a fatal stroke Randy Wimbish and Ken Roeber)

a psychiatrist who allegedly improperly discharged a hospitalized patient who was then involved in an automobile accident that resulted in massive internal injuries and over $350,000.00 in medical bills (Randy Wimbish and Margaret Hardy)

a radiologist who allegedly failed to diagnose bladder cancer on a CT scan, resulting in death (Margaret Hardy and Randy Wimbish).

In addition to the verdicts that made the newspaper's list, Randy Wimbish and Margaret Hardy also obtained a directed verdict at trial for a hospital accused of fracturing a patient's elbow and Wimbish obtained a defense verdict for a dentist accused of negligently performing crown and bridge work.

Randy Wimbish and Margaret Hardy recently obtained a defense verdict on behalf of a pediatric gastroenterologist who allegedly failed to diagnose complications of a liver biopsy that resulted in the death of an 11-year-old patient. The jury rejected the plaintiff's $2.5 million demand after less than 2 hours of deliberations.
