Published on: 12/07/2002

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (Aug 7, 2002)... Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, P.C., one of Virginia's largest law firms, announces its newly formed Admiralty & Maritime Team. The Team of attorneys includes Douglas A. Winegardner, Albert M. Orgain IV and John G. Butler, III. With most maritime lawyers practicing in Norfolk, Sands Anderson brings a team to serve the Richmond area.

Drawing on their military backgrounds and legal experience, these attorneys are capable of providing representation to individuals, vessel owners, P&I Clubs, and maritime-related employers, businesses and insurers. P&I Clubs are like an insurance co-op that groups of maritime businesses jointly belong to which works like a regular insurance company. Most are run out of London.

Of particular note, Winegardner is a former Judge Advocate who served as Associate Admiralty Counsel for the Navy Department and advised on cases involving the USS SARATOGA, the USS RADFORD, and the USS GREENVILLE, which collided with the Japanese fishing vessel.
