Lee Byrd serves as President of Sands Anderson and has been a member of the firm's three-member Board of Directors since 2008.  Lee is a member, and the immediate past chair, of the Business & Professional Litigation Group, where he devotes substantial time to handling a wide variety of business litigation relating to contracts, commercial leases, easements, insurance coverage, and legal malpractice.  Lee is often involved in shareholder, partnership, and employment disputes.  Lee serves as an arbitrator, and has substantial experience in arbitrations and mediations. 

Lee's cases include assertions of officer and director liability, breach of fiduciary duty, unfair competition, fraud, racketeering, and business conspiracy. Lee handles litigation involving intellectual property, disputed estates, wills and trusts, as well as creditors' rights and collection matters.

Lee has substantial appellate experience and has argued cases before the Supreme Court of Virginia and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.  Lee has authored or co-authored numerous appellate briefs in these courts, both for parties and non-party amici curiae or "friends of the court."

Lee is a principal contact at the firm for The Law Firm Alliance and has served on its Board of Directors since 2007. 

In addition to his Business & Professional Litigation Group duties, Lee is an active, adjunct member of the firm's Government Group.  In that capacity, Lee has handled a variety of litigation, appellate, and administrative matters involving environmental, nuisance, land use, zoning, and municipal finance issues.

Lee has been listed seven times among Virginia's "Legal Elite" in Virginia Business Magazine's annual compilation, most recently for his Civil Litigation practice.  In addition, Lee has been listed among Virginia's "Super Lawyers" as a Business Litigator for the past seven years.
