Aaron Bailey is a member of the Business and Professional Litigation group and focuses his practice in business litigation, creditors' rights and collections matters. He is based in the Raleigh office.
Aaron spent his first dozen years of practice at a 25-lawyer Raleigh law firm where he became partner. Aaron now offers clients his extensive experience in creditor's rights advocacy and commercial litigation throughout North Carolina as part of our Raleigh team Among the issues in which he has significant experience are insurance law, subrogation, fraud recovery, impairment of collateral by lien or impoundment, domestication of foreign judgments, claim and delivery. Aaron is able to assist clients in international collections and contracts, representation of creditors in bankruptcy and drafting of contracts. He also represents businesses, banks, individuals, and credit providers through all stages of civil litigation and judgment enforcement. In pursuit of his client's interests, he has appeared in more than 95 venues. He also has substantial experience in complex and intense litigation and recovery involving fraudulent transfers, hidden assets, evasive defendants and shell companies. Aaron has the distinction of obtaining the largest single sheriff's levy in Wake County history, collecting over $12 million for a judgment creditor. Aaron serves as faculty for accredited Continuing Legal Education seminars where he has taught on such topics as judgment enforcement, locating hidden and transferred assets, piercing the corporate veil, investigating shell corporations, compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, compliance with the Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act, pre-litigation recovery techniques, and compliance with the Bankruptcy Code's Automatic Stay provisions. At the request of the International Affairs Council, he has provided legal seminars to visiting foreign delegations. Aaron has addressed African, Russian, Ukrainian and Afghani judges and lawyers regarding matters of civil practice and judgment enforcement in the United States, while hosting several groups at his firm. In 2006, Aaron was one of only 57 American professionals selected as a Marshall Memorial Fellow by the German Marshall Fund of the United States. As a Fellow, he travelled to Europe in October 2006 to promote cooperation and understanding between the United States and Europe. The group visited Germany, Belgium, Greece and Slovakia meeting with policy makers, officials and professionals. In July of 2005, Aaron travelled to Russia at the invitation of Russian lawyers and the Republic of Udmurt Bar Association with the aim of further developing relationships with Russia and to discuss legal systems and commerce possibilities. Aaron met the head of the Russian Lawyers Guild, the mayor of Izhevsk, the vice-president of the Udmurt Republic and many federal, military and Supreme Court judges and officials, along with visits to several courts and government offices in Moscow, Izhevsk, Votkinsk, and Yaksur Bodya. Aaron's article and photos about the trip were featured as the cover story of the Jan/Feb 2006 edition of the North Carolina Lawyer titled "To Russia With Law."
